Until October we were taking Sundays off. We worked through the 31st and walked away. The kitchen is finished. The bedroom is finished. The bathroom is finished except for having a vanity. In the we-just-can't-catch-a-break department, there's the story of our vanity. We ordered it early in the spring. It was delivered. We checked the box carefully then decided not to open so it could be protected. I cannot tell you how many times we moved that box around our space. When it was finally time for installation, we cut the box away and installed. I looked down and almost cried. The top was carrara marble. And there was a crack from the front right corner of the sink to the edge of the vanity. Not a crack that had happened in transit. A crack that happened before it left the building and was "repaired". Back and forth with Home Depot. Just saying that when you spend $40,000 with a store in six months, they tend to work with you a little more. Returned the vanity, got a credit and will replace next year. In truth, it's probably way better. The vanity barely fit the space. We will purchase a smaller one and all will be good.
Installing the engineered floors went faster/better than we had anticipated...but we forgot to take any pictures. We did all the trim in the house except the windows/door across the front. We decided that we wanted to do all of that at the same time and that needs to wait until the window is replaced. The wainscoting got sanded, stained, and cut to length. We did not install because we are still stewing about how we are going to finish the top.
We are thankful that our bodies didn't give out on us. Greg ate no sugar and lost 49 pounds before I started baking cookies and muffins again. He has gained back five but still needs to gain back a bit more.
I lost about 15 pounds but. look. at. my. arms! That is mudding/sanding 32 gallons of drywall mud, sanding ALL the wood, & painting: 7 gallons of primer + 17 gallons of interior, exterior, & stain. Not bad for a soon-to-be 65 year old! All in all, it's probably not an exercise regimen I would recommend.Thank you for following along this arduous journey. We look forward to next summer when we will build the porch, organize the storage room and garage, finish the living room/dining room, move in, nest and welcome guests again!
