It’s spring! And what a bEaUtiful, busy spring it has been.
February/March we went to a Willie Nelson concert before
making trips to Florida and Texas. Daddy came home with me to the cabin for a few days
(while Greg made a "quick trip" to Alaska to help build Wizard of Oz set for friend Larry) and brother Dave came for a visit. Daddy helped me dig; we broke the cardinal
rule of planting before April 15 because it was so dang warm. MOST springs, that is the last freeze date in these parts.
And we DID have a couple of cold nights this week. But so far I’ve only lost a
few gardening treasures to lack of rain…not cold temps.
Greg and I spent a couple of days with friends, Pam &
Jim, and “did” Callaway Gardens. Sophia & Stan got to the mountain for a
couple of days and then Hannah and Laura Jean, with new beau in tow, paid us a
visit—and it wasn’t even a holiday! I LOVE it when my girls come home!!! Oh, and we’ve been working on the tiny
house.
Couple of critter stories: yesterday as I retrieved a board from a blackberry thicket,
Greg watched (as in, followed down the hill in earnest pursuit) a three foot
long black snake he says I almost stepped on as it slipped out the other side.
Big black snakes are our friends. They eat mice and other varmints. Earlier Grace was carrying on and we found the source of her agitation meandering down the
hill—a
six-inch in diameter tortoise! Who would’ve thunk on the side of the mountain? Then
last night as we were relaxing sore muscles in the hot tub and enjoying the
stars, we were entertained by first fireflies of the season.
Greg had a minor injury this week when the table saw
grabbed, popped in two, and kicked back the plastic pushing device. No, he
didn’t have the guard on. Yes, he’ll live (but he says it smarts).
And I, um, got a new spring hairdo. While I was staining the soffits,
I accidentally leaned back into some stain. I had a kerchief on which saved the
top of my head but the length (that I was just
able to pull into a pony tail) was stained brown beyond salvaging (I tried). A short summer bob with long(er) sides.
Tiny house update: have been so busy getting it done that we
haven’t been good about taking pictures. You can click here to see where we are
now! Should have it mostly finished before heading back to Alaska.
But have a few fun things to do before making that trek. Like I promised to take Greg to World of Coca Cola. And told him I'd drop him off at Six Flags so he could ride the roller coaster as soon as he had the shower hooked up! And Caroline & Tom are coming. And Hannah's graduating from her American Sign Language program so we'll have to celebrate. She wants to go to the beach...

1) Make sure my Unc tries "Beverly"- it's an Italian soda that's offered for tasting at the coke museum. It's unforgettable ;)
2) Roller coasters without me?! :(
