Let me introduce you to Stan (my man) Gherkin

He’s our new (to us) RV. We love to go to end of the road places and still love to camp. Just not crazy about that whole on-the-ground-sleeping-wake-up-with-shooting-pains. Have talked about a slide-in camper for a couple of years. And a bigger boat. And a bigger truck to haul said camper and boat.

We were supposed to be concentrating on building a garage this year. But we got a little distracted looking at campers. Looked at used ones. Looked at new ones. Found out our hoss of a Tundra is not so much a hoss when it comes to hauling a camper. So we tucked our tail between our legs and came home to pour cement for the outside foundation walls of the garage

Greg continued to look around on Craigslist until one night he said, hey, come look at this. What? A ¾ ton 2000 Ford F-250 with a 2001 9.5 foot Lance slide-in for about the same price as we had been looking at used 7 foot slide-ins. We called. We went to look at. We bought. On the spot. It is more camper than we thought we would get AND it’s got a(nother) truck thrown in for good measure. Did I say that truck is big enough to haul that bigger boat Greg wants? Aaaiiiieeeee, not this year!

The sweet older gentleman, Stan, who was selling “his friend” and insisted that like a good pet “he needed to go to a good family who would appreciate him” had a small name plaque on the wall in the camper with a favorite scripture. We decided to christen it in his honor. Then Greg added the (my man) Gherkin…where does he come up with these names?

He’s a real Alaskan truck…
several good dings, dents, and scratches…which means we don’t have to worry about being the first. Cleaned him up and took Greg’s grand kiddos out for a night this weekend to check everything out. Good time had by all at Captain Cook State Park. I’m adding some black out curtains to the bedroom this week; Greg is adding some new running boards. Everything else works fine. Yes, I’ll probably do some decorating upgrades but remember that garage we were supposed to be working on this summer?

Chip and tar folks are supposed to be out this week to do garage floor and driveway. Trusses are on order. We’re thinking it’s a good day to go fishing.

Such is our life. Blessed beyond measure.
