We Made It!

We drove north from Yakima far enough to be less than two hours from the Canadian Border. Canada has not vaccinated as many of its citizens and are wrestling with some spiked COVID outbreaks. Consequently, they have been much more stringent on who they are allowing to cross their border—no non-essential travel.

We have read of Alaskan residents having a hard time getting back home, but we had no trouble. Greg said it was because I had all the paperwork, proof of vaccination, and rv park reservations in hand. We prefer to stay in Provincial Parks (their version of State Parks) but those were all (COVID) closed. We were instructed to remain self-contained and not stop for anything but necessities. It was a shame to drive so hard (4 days straight) through such beautiful country. Maybe in the fall things will be a bit more relaxed and we can take our time. We are calling it a win because we drove the entire ALCAN highway without getting a single windshield chip.

Didn’t get many vista shots but did capture a few good animal pics. Final animal tally (what we saw along the way):

Big horn sheep (25+)

Bear (12)

Deer (18)

Coyote (2)

Elk (2)

Moose (3)

Porcupine (3)

Bison (50+)

Caribou (6)

Fox

Alaska greeted us with a late winter storm. The snow stuck enough on the road that we had to put the truck in four-wheel drive for a while. Not fun. But the sun came out the next day and the vistas reminded us why we keep coming back! Hugs and visits with Greg’s grandkids are the cherry on top of a looooooooooong  (7,500+ miles) trip.

Pics here.
