Most days I feel like we are too old to be doing this. But we soldier on. This week we insulated interior walls and rented a drywall lift for the twelve-foot pieces. Whew.
Happy to report that those are all placed! The shared bathroom/kitchen wall and the other kitchen wall cannot be drywalled until plumbing and electrical are completed. That can’t happen until the carport on the right has been excavated four feet, gravel added, concreted and walls built. Then lines for washer, dryer, freezer, water softener, pressure tank, and hot water heater can be added. We haven’t been able to find anyone to excavate so Greg will be renting a machine next week to do that. There is an electrical line and septic pipe he will have to avoid. What could possibly go wrong?
We usually wake between 7-8, eat breakfast and get started. That means Greg goes into the house and plans the day while I take Rory for a walk. By the time I get back, Greg is already working away. I join. We stop for lunch. MAYBE a break, then go, go, go until around 6. Dinner, wash off, and in bed usually between 9-10. We take Sunday “off”. Which means that Greg cleans up the work site and I buy groceries, wash and cook for the week.
We are living in our 9.5 foot slide in camper on site. It’s
a small space but we’ve camped in it over 200 nights since we purchased it in
2014, so we know how to work the space. A couple of times a week we go over to
Mik’s (family friend, has a home we rented last year and have stored much of
our stuff in for the last two years) to bathe and “restock” our camper pantry.
Rory has adapted remarkably well. As long as she gets a good run/walk in the morning and evening, she is chill the rest of the day. She had begun to stay close, off leash around the property until Tuesday when Greg stepped out and saw momma moose with two new babies. Rory is ALWAYS on lead now. AND she has become quite the bed hog. She could be so much worse.
As could this whole experience. But, today, we have had blue
skies (only 4th time this summer so far), and we are capable people
making another comfortable place to live. We’re calling that blessed. And we
are thankful.
