On the road again

We stayed two nights in Milan. First night we were headed back to the hotel from dinner. We were at an intersection. A young couple pulled up beside us, rolled down their window, and proceeded (we think) to ask directions. In unison we looked back at them, shrugged and said, English? We all burst into laughter.

Sunday we got up and took the tram to Brera neighborhood where they have an open air market. It was raining steadily and we were not impressed by vendors or wares. Kept walking to Duomo and center piazza. Passed by La Scala on the way but it was closed. Also walked in and out of a hyped “art” exhibit by Paul McCarthy. NO. That’s all I’m saying. Strolled through Duomo, gawked at its 135 spires, and did a little shopping. Back to the hotel to pick up the car before heading to Lake Como—in the Northern Lake District.

The narrow road adjacent to the edge of the water reminded Debye and me of the Amalfi coast. It just about blew Pam’s mind. No accidents, up the inner coastline (it looks like an inverted Y) of Como, dinner in Bellagio, ferry ride across the neck, back to Milan. Today we headed back toward southern France. We got off of the interstate for about an hour and were rewarded with some beautiful scenery including waterfalls, mountains, and free-ranging, cows sporting bells. Really. Delightful. Ending spot Hermitage, France.
