Back in Alaska

Passed the NC Real Estate Exam first attempt. Whoot! Got on a plane and flew to Alaska the next day. Got to share a Mexican dinner with my Alaskan women friends. So far, this has been the most beautiful summer I’ve experienced since arriving in 2006. Greg says it’s easily the best in ten years. Lots of sunshine and warm temps. Not too much wind. Just lovely.

Project Number One: putting a deck on the front of the house. We went back and forth on the design and (finally) came up with one we both loved. It is a BIG deck! Ten feet wide the fifty-foot length of the house. Only minor injuries—ever-present cuts and bruises (one especially pronounced on my left cheek…and I’m not talking about face.)

Got a good start on prepping the yard for seeding. DW rented a bulldozer last Saturday and scraped and contoured. He dug up twenty trees we wanted to save. Karma moved several wheelbarrows of rock under the deck for drainage. Sunday evening Greg and I re-planted the twenty spruce and birch trees along with three lilacs I bought in celebration of our getting all the floor boards down on the deck. It rained on Monday so I think they all may make it.

We have company arriving Friday from Georgia. Still need to stain deck, as well as add railing and steps into house. That will just have to wait until we are done spoiling our company. Cooler temps and overcast skies have been the norm for the last ten days. Am hoping the sunshine and warm temps return to welcome the cheechakos.
