Taking a trip this time of year had me concerned that I might miss seeing the leaves change color this year. It did not occur to me that I might see colors in Italy. End of October, northern mountainous region, cooler temps. Guess what we found? Yay!
Snow skiing in Europe (Switzerland, Austria, northern Italy) is on Greg's bucket list. Today we saw some of the lifts/vertical. Wow. You could not pay me...but Greg was giddy with possibilities. Spent the night in an Alpine chalet apartment. The clouds and rain that rolled in with us lifted and we drove through one picturesque hamlet after another as the sun peeked through. Delightful. Lovely. Words that just keep slipping out.
Thought we would be spending this week in the Tuscany area. Greg finally had a chance to look at the map and travelogues. We're headed to Genova then Monaco before heading to Florence and Rome!
Another agriturismo. Must say that we have been pleased with this form of lodging. Working farms is a liberal term. It appears that many of these places are primarily or heavily supplementing their farm incomes with lodging/food. We've found them to be generally cheaper than hotels while providing a definite local flavor away from the city centers.
Genova is bustling port city. We got a feel for the waterfront...walked about a mile from parking to the Aquarium (Europe's largest) in the rain. While enjoying the exhibits the sun peeked out. Walked back to find car (which was more of a challenge than it should've been). Decided to drive to the heart of old town/museum central. Bad idea. We both got frustrated. Took a couple of pictures from the car and headed out of town. Back on autostrada headed along the coast.
