The next morning we dressed for "anything"--swimsuit under clothes--packed a picnic, towels, sunscreen, tennies, and we're off exploring the north eastern corner of Queensland. Decided to head up the coast to scope Port Douglas and snorkeling/diving opportunities. Talked to a few folks, walked the docks in the marina and decided to continue driving north to Cape Tribulation for a picnic. Well, maybe we weren't completely prepared.
Knew that Cape Trib was in Daintree Rainforest but had somehow missed that you had to ride a car ferry across a river in/out of forest. Had to make spur-of-the-moment decision that this would be our rainforest day. Ate our lunch while crossing the river then drove to end-of-the-road Cape Tribulation. Lt. James Cook named the Cape after spending a couple of months in the area repairing damage done to Endeavor by the shoals of the reef.
Walked a boardwalk through rainforest and mangrove habitats. Found a clear pool I had to wade in. Ate some ice cream made from indigenous fruits. Took a night walk through a portion of the rainforest...disappointing that we didn't see more animals...cool that we got to be in a rainforest at night!
