Make it or Break it

In every project we always reach a point where we have to stop and say, can we actually do this? Or should we cut our losses and walk away? This week our “come to Jesus” moment was, for Greg, this freaking footer for an outside wall to the storage room. For me, it was the mudding and taping of drywall.

Greg would shore up a side to build his form for the footer, and because of all the

rain (rain, and more rain) the other side would cave…shovel it out…shore it up…you get the drift. Four feet deep. The first foot needed to be rock, so any time we got a break in the weather we went to the beach to shovel rocks. Got that filled. Then he laid foam insulation and rebar.  Low and behold, the sun reappeared on Friday and he got his concrete poured!

If you have never taped, mudded and sanded drywall, it is an art, a process, a gradual feathering of at least two but more likely minimum three coats of mud. After spending DAYS in the bathroom, I looked at the rest of the building and acknowledged defeat—conceding that my arms were going to fall off if I continued sanding with the traditional drywall blocks. I said, screw it, and got out my trusty orbital sander. Put 220 grit pad on. Applied light pressure. What? IT WORKED! I was able to sand the bedroom in a third of the time it took to sand the bathroom.

A few new pics in Exterior file. Pictures don't show too much difference between one coat, two coats or three coats of mud so no inside house pics.

Guess we are not walking away. Yet! I WILL say it is quite the workout regimen. We are both firming up nicely. but. what. a. way. to. do. it. Not sure I would recommend. Thanks for following along on this building journey!
