Food
Breakfast generally consists of crusty bread/hard roll with a slice of mild white cheese and salami or ham. Orange juice, hot tea with honey.
Lunch is Souvlakia (shaved pork from an open-air pit wrapped and served similarly to a gyro...except here they serve french fries wrapped in the sandwich), gyro or spinach or ham/cheese pastry with some fresh fruit--peach, watermelon, nectarines, grapes, plums. Found a way I finally like yogurt: tzatziki--a spread made of yogurt, garlic, cucumber and sometimes mint. There is a bakery on every other block. Yum.
Dinner is a Greek salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, purple onions and feta cheese; extras sometimes include capers, olives, or green peppers or all of the above!), fresh crusty bread and an entree. Lots of grilled fish...names I can't spell or pronounce. Pasta on Corfu (Italian influence). Pork, beef, lamb. Taramosalata is a dipping sauce made from pureed salted mullet roe and potato. Better than it sounds. All good!
Favorite I could eat with every meal--saganaki. Cheese fried in olive oil drizzled with lemon. Oh, man!

Shelter
Half of our hotels have not had air conditioners. Open windows/doors create a thru breeze. Simple wood-framed headboards. Mattress covered with white sheet; another folded at foot of bed for cover.
No baths. All showers. Two foot square to hold the hand held shower head and clean yourself. It has been an art to master. We have left some drenched bathrooms.
All toilets, all islands--no paper down the drain. Trashcan beside the toilet to dispose of all paper trash. I laugh when I imagine my mom dealing with this.
