Tuesday we flew to Athens and then to Santorini. Ixnayed Naxos and Delos almost immediately. Came to terms with the fact that we just can't do that much in one trip and still be on vacation.Got a room on the sandy cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea. Went into Fira and wandered
around town. Rented a car and ate at a taverna on the road to our villa.Wednesday we drove all over the island. In the morning we headed north. Stopped at a bakery in Oia. Found a secluded beach and shared pastries and fruit while we sunned. Back to Fira. A million steps/stairs later (up then down) we got on a chartered boat trip to the volcano
island, Nea Kameni. We hiked to the edge--no easy feat. Back to the boat for a short trip to Palaia Kameni to swim in hot springs. I was pretty tired but Mary H loves to swim so I was inspired to jump off the boat and swim across the sea with her to the springs.
Cable car (held my breath) back to Fira from the port. Headed to the southern end of the island. Found Ancient Thira that is closed for renovations...but can say I've been there. Found a cool light house and ate on the coast before turning car in and crashing.
