Week 10

Spent July 4 on a ladder sealing soffits. Put the second coat on later in the week. Greg worked on plumbing. And roof (roof, roof, and more roof.)

The good news is that the entire metal roof went on this week. Greg said when the roof is on and all the doors/windows are in, we’re half way there. The bad news is that I want to be done. Now. I am having regular fantasies about indoor plumbing. A washer and dryer at my fingertips. A stove with more than two propane lit burners. An oven. A door for some space between the two of us. Remember, I did this glorified camping all last summer, too. Aren’t I allowed a little grousing?

Crazy thing is that we are doing this WHILE I’m menopausing. That’s just not right. Night sweats woke me at 4 a.m. Up at 5 cleaning the work site. My mood for the last couple of days has been bordering on maniacal. Matt (Greg’s son) was coming down to go fishing Saturday/Sunday so Friday evening I sent Greg to his mom’s for dinner and to spend the night. Sometimes we all just need a little solitude.

Saturday mood was improved and I spent the morning haunting garage sales. This weekend I got a Columbia jacket, Danskin jacket (ever been worn?), 5 knobs for closet bi-folds, 4 shelves, a wreath for the guest bath, (new in package) curtain rod for kitchen window, and a whiskey barrel for planting. $12.75 total spent.

Matt and friends came by the house Saturday evening to move our sheetrock from piles outside to piles inside. We said “thank you” by grilling out yummy steaks with the summer trimmings. Corn on the cob, tossed salad, fruit salad, key lime pie. The pie was a little challenging. Had to find a recipe on the internet that did not require baking. Crushed the graham crackers with the sweetened condensed milk can. Beat (and beat and beat) the cream cheese with a whisk because my mixer is where? In storage, of course. The fact that my arms are in the best-shape-ever-in-life-from-house-building made it possible at all.

The eagle is here so often now we are wondering if it is nesting. That would be pretty cool.

Everybody tells me that from now until we say we are finished is s-l-o-w going. Oh. Boy. Give me patience.
