Week 13

Oh, the challenges. For the last two summers I have cooked on a two-burner propane camp stove. Become pretty creative/proficient, if I say so myself. Part of the arrangement with our helper, Mik, is that he eats lunch and dinner with us. For 13 weeks I have cooked dinner every night. On a two-burner propane camp stove. Yeah, pause a minute and think about that.

It started leaking propane this week so I had to get MORE creative. Pulled the deep fryer out of the trailer and now we’re a week into eating grilled/fried/microwaved meals. This morning I made biscuits, cut them into little strips, fried them, rolled them in powdered sugar and then smothered them in fresh blueberry syrup made in the microwave. You can eat stuff like that when you are using up the calories we are.

Sheetrock. Wallboard. Drywall. It’s all the same and what we have spent the better part of the week working on. Mik measures and cuts. Greg helps him lift and place and then drills in (a million) screws. I come behind taping the seams. All the (sheetrock) walls in the whole house are up except for one bathroom. I just thought I was through insulating. We decided for privacy to go back and insulate ALL the walls in the two bathrooms. Finished that this weekend. It really feels like a house insisde now.

Add tiling to the list of things for next year. We have the tile…but decided that we are going to let the house settle for a year before undertaking that project.

We took Saturday off and went to Ninilchik. We were going halibut fishing but the wind kicked up so we visited with Taz (Greg’s mom) & Dick and rested. Played some cards. Went to the beach at sunset. It made us realize how little we had done that this summer.

Just a couple of pictures.
