We enjoyed it as we boarded up the cabin. Spent one last night in Palmer. Larry, crashing with you has been great! Thanks for affording us an in-between living space and being so flexible and hospitable with our comings and goings. I’m thinking commune of favorite people when we all get old.
Spent 4 hours washing the outside of the motorhome. First night out it rained and spewed/caked mud. Oh, well. Made it through customs without even having to unpack the long guns. Slept beside Beaver Creek in the Yukon Territory. Got in the low 40s at night; snuggled under blankets and quilts and turned on the heater when we got up.
The road has some rough spots that make us shake rattle and roll but the scenery is wide-open spaces. Mountains (with and without snow, with and without vegetation), hills, rocky out-croppings, clear creeks/rivers/lakes, lots of blue sky full of puffy white clouds, mid-50s temp. Birch began to outnumber spruce then pines won. Not much wildlife to report yet. Only one fox spotted so far.
Greg’s gash is healing nicely; cut his stitches out and it’s holding. Have missed our daily long walks but the Grace Dog and I go on short stretch/walking breaks about every two hours. Dad, she votes traveling couch, riding shotgun and floor space over back of pickup any day.
Night two outside of Whitehorse beside the Yukon River. Greg says traveling at this clip we may add Yosemite to the itinerary. Oh, my.
